Detailed agenda

This is a first cut at revising the agenda. I still have to go back and reorder a few things to meet requirements of when individual people are available. (I'll do that tonight or Friday.) The goal here was to identify moderators and reorder the topics suggested into an order that allows us to build on past decisions and not discuss topics that are depenedent on topics to be discussed.

Monday Morning

1) Overview of Network Plans (3 hours, moderated by Joe)

The development of new networks and support of existing networks is sure to impact the development plans of individual participants in the perfSONAR project.

a) Overview of the status of each network

  • ESnet (Joe) (10 minutes)
  • GEANT2 (Nicolas) (10 minutes)
  • Internet2 (Eric) (10 minutes)
  • RNP (Leobino) (10 minutes)

b) Overview of perfSONAR requirements

  • ESnet (Joe) (10 minutes)
  • LHC (Joe) (10 minutes)
  • GEANT2 (Nicolas) (10 minutes)
  • Internet2 (Eric) (10 minutes)
  • RNP (Leobino) (10 minutes)
  • SLAC (Yee) (10 minutes)

Discussion: Where is there overlap, where are there parallel efforts targeted at different hardware, and who is counting on who

BREAK

Monday Afternoon

2) Discussion of available perfSONAR development resources (who? skill set? interests?) in the next year (1 hour, moderated by Joe)

  • ESnet/LHC (Joe) (10 minutes)
  • GEANT2 JRA1 (Nicolas) (10 minutes)
  • Internet2 (Eric) (10 minutes)
  • RNP (Leobino) (10 minutes)

Discussion: Who needs to work together? Who can proceed independently? Who is counting on someone else but would like to be able to specify requirements?

3) Project Structure (2 hours, moderated by Eric)

In the past few months, we have proposed and implemented a release engineering team, proposed (but not really implemented) a steering committee, and had periodic discussions about various topics. I think we should revisit these structures and perhaps rework those that are not functioning.

a) Bash the agenda for this subtopic.

b) Discussion: Core vs. Affiliate.

What do we mean by "Core"? What do we mean by "Affiliate"? Should we loosen the tie between services? For example, L2 schema status, Internet2-planned services.

c) Branding / Naming of Services

We need a simple naming scheme for services that allows users to understand how to pick which services they want and which version of each they want. For example, what if the name for the Brazilian Command-Line Measurement Point was perfSONAR-MP-command_line?

What is the process for allowing a service to call itself "perfSONAR" or "perfSONAR-compliant"?

d) Licensing

How does this impact licensing?
