MDM Measurement Mesh
From GEANT2-JRA1 Wiki
| Several servers performing Hades BWCTL have been deployed by different GN2 activities (JRA1, SA3, MDM). Below we will discuss the different type of measurement scenarios that are possible, so that we can pick-up one for the MDM. Note that the scenarios below are not mutually exclusives | . |
| (1) The Full mesh between all the boxes involved. Advantages: all the cases are covered. Inconveniences: generates a lot of data (measuring similar things), scalability for the future, usability (user interface). | |
| (2) Full mesh for all the servers within a domain (green lines) and the inter-connects (blue lines) are measured (by picking the closest box from each inter-connect). Advantages: it shows you what is happening within your network. Inconveniences: limited value if you got few servers deployed. | . |
| (3) Full measurement mesh between all the networks connected through a network (pink lines). One measurement server per network is chosen to take part to this measurementsm mesh. The picture shows it for the NRENs over GEANT, and the universities over FCCN and GARR. Advantege: is shows the behavior of the inter-connecting network seen from the point of view of the connected networks. It is complementary to (2). | . |
| (4) Full mesh within a country between all the boxes (red lines). Advantage: gives a full picture within a country. Well suited in case of low number of servers deployed within a country. Dissadvantage: the scalability if multiples measurement servers are deployed in each regional or university networks | . |
| (5) Measurement to special destinations (blue and purple lines). E.g. to New York or to CERN. It is up to the NREN/group of NREN to specify those based on their needs. | . |
| (6) Full mesh between only the MDM servers. advantage, can re-use easily the existing visualisation tools (nice matrices). Dissadvantage: do not make use of the SA3 servers. |
