Visualisation tools
The work on perfsonarUI is currently concentrating on the integration of a range of new functionalities, enhancements and performance optimizations (Java Web Start distribution, parallel and/or aggregated requests, metadata exchange with Hades service, retrieval and visualization of RIPE test data from Hades service, better error reporting, JavaDoc, etc...). Work on a plug-in API, enabling other developers to integrate more easily new functionalities into perfsonarUI, is in progress. A complete GUI overhaul, prompted by user feedback, is being implemented.
On the Looking Glass, the capability of contacting the SNMP MP and display values returned have been added in addition the capability or returning information from the Telnet/SSH MP.
Measurements contained in the HADES MA became available in the CNM. The maps for the measurements have been constructed in an automated manner.
Services
Two new types of messages have been introduced to monitor perfSONAR services: ping perfSONAR services (EchoRequest and EchoResponse).
A file transport interface and an SSH implementation for copying PCAP files from DiMAPI machines (not running TCMP) to machine running TCMP.
Major step forward was done on the Topology service (TopS). The TopS service first version should be available towards the end of November. RNP is showing interest in the Topology Service. In parallel to those developments, JRA1 is actively involved in the definition of the common Network Information Service developed by SA3. In the future, cNIS will act as replacement to the TopS to avoid having NRENs maintaining multiple similar systems required by multiple activities.
A file transport interface and an SSH implementation for copying PCAP files from DiMAPI machines (not running TCMP) to machine running TCMP. This allow a single instance of the TCMP Service to control many capturing machines running DiMAPI.
A functional test suite for the Round Robin Database Measurement Archive and the Lookup service are currently under creation.
An additional Measurement Archives instances have been deployed by Renater to provide link capacity and utilisation. A total of fourteen Measurement Archives have been deployed, amongst them, nine by European NRENs (http://monstera.man.poznan.pl/jra1-wiki/index.php/RRD_type_MA_Service_Installations).
A script to produce a metadata configuration file for RRD MA from MRTG config file has been created. This will help the installation and configuration process.
Metric Composition Framework
Work on the definition of a dashboard, aiming at summarising the monitoring information has started. The aim is to find ways of summarising the data so that the behavior of a network can be seen at a glance. Collaborations
A first hands-on workshop on 27th September to SEEREN2 Summer School participants in Heraklion, Greece. The workshop included a two hour lecture on perfSONAR followed by hands-on lab sessions on perfSONAR UI visualisation tool and RRD Installation lab. There were 16 participants, all of them from the Balkan area and most of them hadn't heard about perfSONAR before. http://www.terena.nl/activities/seeren/programme3.html Valuable feedback was received and the session was well rated.
Other
Cynet has joined JRA1 and will provide one full time equivalent. They will mostly be involved in functional testing and in perfSONAR developments. DJ1.3.2 Phase II – Implementation Report was finalised after review.
