November Quaterly Report
This report summarise the months from September to November.
Three JRA1 Work-Items started from PM1, WI1 - Requirement and WI2 – Design and WI4 - Evaluation. The last one WI3 - Implementation starts at a later stage. The work within each work-item is subdivided in task and assigned to one or several project partners. The workplans for those tasks were specified.
A face-to-face Work-Item Leader meeting was held in Paris on the 2nd of September. A two day kick-off meeting was held in Lisbon (Portugal) on the 29th and 30th of September. Twenty four people from seventeen partners attended this meeting.
The first WI1 task to start by PM1 is the "Requirement Report" task. Three questionnaires have been sent to the NRENs. Each questionnaire targets a different type monitoring infrastructure user: the NRENs, the projects making use of the networks and the end-users (through their first level of support). These questionnaires aim at understanding the requirements of all the partners, identify services implemented on the networks and the monitoring tools currently deployed. At the end of November, 45 answers were received (15 for each type of questionnaire).
The "State-of-the-art" task (WI1) gathered and described the strong points of existing measurement tools and infrastructure of interest of the activity. A web-form was set-up by Cesnet to help the collection of the gathered information. The State-of-the-art task investigated as well the relevant work done within some standardisation bodies.
"Tool evaluation tasks" (WI1) aims at evaluating more in details the tools which could potentially be re-used by JRA1. This task has already identified several tools and started the evaluation of several of them. Guidelines have been provided to help the evaluators in collecting the appropriate information.
The WI2 "General Framework design" team has started to work on a high level design in collaboration with the Internet2 piPEs team. This group also had a meeting in Brussels and another one in Paris and held weekly conf calls.
The WI2 “Metric definition” task has started to work on the identification of the metric of interests and their definition.
The WI4 “Evaluation proposal” is working on selecting suitable measurement host which will then be bought and installed within the network to provide JRA1 with a platform to test its infrastructure.
