May 2005 Quaterly Report

This report is for the period March 2005 until May 2005.

Work was carried out to evaluate the Scampi architecture and the MAPI interface (Measurement API) and to investigate the interest of using netflow data within JRA1. Cesnet worked on defining the commonalities between the Lobster architecture and the JRA1 one. Three scenarios avoiding duplication of work have been suggested.

Additional information about the netflow utilisation amongst the NRENs has been carried out. The list of feature that the netflow tools should support has been written down.

Requirement regarding the hardware needed for the activity were gathered. Different hardware platform were closely evaluated for the OWD and TCP throughput probes (available bandwidth) measurements. Quotes were being asked to different equipment vendors. Various synchronisation techniques were evaluated for the OWD information.

The messages format to be used in the communication between services and a visualisation database schema are being refined. Pointers and information about NRENs visualisation tools have been gathered to be used as a reference for the people who will be working on policy access and on visualisation.

The work on data aggregation and concatenation has started with the definition of a workplan for the task. Investigation on the AA needs for JRA1 is carried out and it appeared that the JRA1 requirements are the same than the ones from SA3. JRA5 has been notified.

Different technologies have been evaluated and it has been chosen to implement the prototype. A prototype meeting was held following the JRA1 activity one and after evaluation of several technologies, the following ones were chosen: web-services, Axis, Tomcat and mySQL.

A document on metric definition and choice of tool corresponding to the first direction of the JRA1 has been written down. This corresponds to MJ1.2.1.

A JRA1 activity meeting was held in Zurich. The meeting was also attended by people from EGEE, Internet2 piPEs and Lobster. A prototype development week was held in Ann Arbor (Internet2). A paper about the framework design was submitted to the TNC 2005 conference and accepted.
