June 2005 report

Work on metric composition and aggregation has started. It aims at providing guidelines regarding which type of aggregation and concatenation can be done for a given type of metric. The outcome of this work will be presented in the DJ1.2.3 Metric Report.

The prototype group has been developing the basic service building bloc. This building bloc will provide the basuc services functionality (mapping a request into a service java class). It will be used in all the services defined in the GFD (DJ1.2.1). They have also worked on the NM-WG schema with the focus on retrieving data from a Measurement Archive and suggested some modification to reflect the utilisation that the perfSONAR framework would have of it. A java library to retrieve data from Round Robin Database (used by cricket and MRTG, two monitoring tools widely used by the NRENs) has been build and will be used in the prototype phase 0. The prototype phase 0 aims at building a MA service to retrieve link utilisation from NRENs existing RRDs). The prototype phase 0 is planned to be finalised by the 15th of July. The work to define a general database schema (storing data and topological information) for the visualisation tools is progressing.

Due to the large amount of RIPE TTM deployed within the research and educational community in Europe and the requests from several NRENs, it has been decided to add the RIPE TTM in the list of tools which will be integrated in the JRA1 work for showcasing the perfSONAR framework.

One JRA1 presentation was given during the TNC 2005 event based on a paper submitted to the conference presenting the JRA1 services. During the Lobster session, it was expressed what JRA1 could be doing with packet capture type of monitoring devices. During the Euro-American meeting (Canarie, ESnet, Internet2, GN2) held in Ann Arbor, the progress of the joint work between ESnet, Internet2 and GN2-JRA1 were presented.
