A third version of the Looking glass making use of the SSH/Telnet MP has been produced based on feedback received. Looking_Glass. CNM has been improved and provides now a map zoom capabilities and to display graphs with the time of the user local machine independently of the time zone of the original measurement. PerfsonarUI v0.07 is now available and has, amongst other improvements, an automatic installer for Windows platforms, an clickable summary radar chart with tooltips in RRD MA tab and they resolved some issues highlighted by users.
Services
Three new MPs are available in beta version: an SNMP Measurement Point (MP) which will, when receiving a router or interface name and an OID or a MIB field name, retrieves the value associated to that OID on the selected router/interface.
The second one is an Alcatel NMS MP, providing upon request the ES, SES, UAS data from the Alcatel NMS.
The third one is TCMP Measurement Point service based on packet capture. It allows selecting and seeing all the packets of a flow and use tools like ethereal on the traces.
An SQL MA has also been made available (See the installation guide). It is a wrapper around a SQL database to provide historical information.
A first release candidate has been produced. It consists of the RRD Measurement Archive Service and of the Lookup Service. This is the first time that the perfSONAR project goes along the path of releasing some code. The procedures defined in DJ1.3.1 on release management and functional tests are being tested during this first release. To help in this release process, the code has been migrated towards a SVN repository and a bug tracking system has been deployed. <p> A first version of a document describing the perfSONAR AA service making use of JRA5's eduGAIN has been produced in collaboration with JRA5. This document will become a DJ1.2.4 during Y3.
Collaborations
JRA1 and JRA4 extended the NM-WG schema to take into consideration the JRA4 data model (CBF status monitoring). The NM-WG schema will be used by both JRA1 and JRA4 to provide L2 status information to the LCH community and to the E2E Link Coordination Unit. The SQL MA is one of the option on which JRA1 will be working to provide those L2 status information.<p>
Work started with SA3 to merge both Layer 3 topologies database.
Other
PerfsonarUI and CNM were demoed during the TNC 06 conference. A demo guide has been provided which would allow any NREN to demo the tools. Demos and hands on sessions were prepared for the GÉANT2 technical meeting that will be held in Cambridge in June. The main goal of the prepared session is to guide the users when playing with the tools to get feedback on them.
A paper on “A Study On Network Performance Metrics and Their Composition” was presented at the TNC 2006 conference. A RNP workshop was held in Curitiba (Brasil) with representative from perfSONAR. The objective of this meeting was to investigate how RNP could collaborate on perfSONAR. Several areas of collaboration were identified.
Milestones and Deliverables
DJ1.3.1 Phase I – Implementation Report has been finalised and submitted to the EC. DJ1.3.2 Phase II – Implementation report table of content has been established.
MJ1.3.2 Implementation milestone phase II The revision of the perfSONAR base services has evolves and a first release candidate has been produced for the LS and the RRD MA. New services have appeared (SNMP MP, SQL MA, SSH/Telnet MP, etc). TCMP Measurement Point service based on packet capture has been set-up. Due to manpower constrains, it hasn’t been possible to have NEMO to make use of the perfSONAR services and the integration is delayed by three months. In respect with the development of the mobile box, as we are only about to finalise the deployment of the static one, it has been considered as too premature at this time to develop mobiles ones. In addition, the difficulties encountered for shipping PCs and to install GPS antenna are two additional aspects which makes those mobile boxes difficult to realise.
